VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE COLLEGE MATERNITY RESIDENCE

  • Administration – Assists with clerical and reception duties that vary depending on our current needs. This might include:
    • Answering phones
    • Making copies
    • Filing
    • Mailings
    • Controlling front door access to maternity residence facility
    • Support staff with other projects and/or functions
  • Child Care – Assists with short-term care of client children by providing safe nurturing care for up to the age of 4 years old while client mothers attend class or other obligations. Must follow all MiraVia guidelines and rules.
  • Facility – Assists with the upkeep, repair and day-to-day operations of the building and grounds at MiraVia according to our current needs. Such duties might include:
    • Cleaning and/or organizing the facility
    • Assisting with landscaping and yardwork (watering, weeding, cutting grass, gardening, etc.)
    • Help conduct scheduled maintenance (replacing air filters, cleaning gutters, etc.)
    • Sort and organize material donations
    • Support staff in preparation for on-site events
  • Teaching – Assists with tutoring the clients with their college studies and/or providing life-skills classes on topics or themes such as:
    • Parenting preparation classes
    • Stages of growth in infants, children and adolescents
    • Day-to-day care of infants, children and adolescents
    • Disciplinary techniques for infants, children and adolescents
    • Education planning
    • Job seeking skills
    • Locating housing
    • Money management
    • Food management
    • Child Care
    • Health education
    • Stress management
    • Life skills
    • Decision making
    • Substance abuse
    • Pregnancy prevention
    • Other services based on the needs of the residents

Volunteer Requirements: Must successfully complete a thorough criminal background and reference check as required by licensing authority. Must complete MiraVia volunteer training and complete all necessary documents. Must present positive professional image for organization.

Volunteer opportunity for Catholic priests! We have a beautiful chapel inside our college maternity residence, and we would love to have priests offer Mass on a regular basis.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE OUTREACH CENTER

  • Facility – Assists with the day-to-day operations at the Outreach Center. Such duties might include:
    • Sort and organize material donations
    • Assemble gift bags for new clients
  • Teaching – Assists with providing life-skills classes on topics or themes such as:
    • Budgeting / finance
    • Cooking / nutrition
    • Career counseling
    • Resumes / job search / interview skills
    • English as a second language
    • Chaste relationships
    • Parenting
    • Tutoring for GED and entrance exams
    • Pregnancy health
    • Other services based on the needs of the residents

WAYS TO VOLUNTEER FROM HOME

  • Pray for the success of our clients and the organization
  • Hold a yard sale, party or other event to benefit MiraVia
  • Coordinate a donation drive of diapers or baby goods (for a list of items most in need, click here)
  • Make or collect holiday gifts or treats for our clients and their children (don’t forget, Mother’s Day, Easter and of course, Christmas)
